Public review and comment on the Environmental Assessement Statement:

"Mint Springs Creek Invasive Fish Species Eradication"

September 1, 2006

Dear Friend:

The National Park Service is soliciting comments on the Environmental Assessment (EA) "Mint Springs Creek Invasive Species Eradication". This proposed project will eradicate the non-native and invasive fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) which was introduced into Mint Springs Creek sometime in the past. This exotic species reproduces rapidly, grows fast, and is capable of altering aquatic communities. The purpose of the proposed action is to eradicate this species from the upper portion of Mint Springs Creek.

The public's comments will be considered in evaluating the EA and making decisions pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act. The EA is open for public review and comment from
September 1, 2006 to October 1, 2006.

The EA is available for review and comment at http://parkplanning.nps.gov. You may also request a copy by calling the park at (601) 619-0583 during regular business hours; or by sending an e-mail to Vick_Interpretation@nps.gov.

Your participation is appreciated. Should you have any questions, please call Fisheries Biologist Jim Long at (678) 538-1334.

Sincerely,

Monika Mayr
Superintendent
